FACEBOOK RELEASES RESEARCH ON HOW WOMEN CAN BOOST SOUTH AFRICAN ECONOMY BY 175 BLN RAND

JOHANNESBURG, Social media and networking service company Facebook has released research detailing how women who want to start their own businesses have the potential to boost the South African economy by 175 billion Rand (about 12.16 billion US dollars).

However, the research also reveals that a lack of access to finance is the main barrier to women setting up their own businesses.

Facebook’s Public Policy Manager for the the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, Emilar Gandhi, says the company is enthusiastic about growing small businesses and to empower women.

One woman, Sphelele Chikowi, who has used Facebook to successfully market her business, Ntozinhle Accessorise, says the social media medium has helped her to grow her business.
