Expelled Itezhi Tezhi UPND MP runs out of time, entices defections to form PF structures

Itezhi Tezhi constituency expelled UPND Member of Parliament Greyford Monde has been busy in the constituency enticing some members and officials from the party that took him to Parliament to defect with him to Patriotic Front, some officials have told Zambian Eye.

According to some officials who have since moved with him to PF, Monde is worried with the looming by-elections following his expulsion. The officials who chose to remain anonymous told Zambian Eye that PF had no structures in the constituency and Monde was busy getting UPND members to establish structures before the election is called.

“We have just been told to join PF if we want to benefit, so he is busy trying to form a team of leaders because there is no PF here,” explained one of the ex-UPND officials drafted in the PF structures.

The officials are being promised that they will be the one to control programmes of the party in the constituency and will have some recognition as leaders from the party in government. The ex-UPND official said they have accepted to move with Monde just for monetary and material gain. He said the Itezhi Tezhi by-election may be delayed to make sure that the PF has laid ground in the constituency.

Monde was not available for a comment by press time as his mobile phone was unreachable.

There have been reports of defections to PF in the area by some government owned and controlled media.
