Court asks prosecution to withdraw former DEC chief’s case

PRINCIPAL resident magistrate Aridah Chulu has asked the prosecution to

withdraw former Drug Enforcement Commission chief Aaron Zulu’s case

because it has been mentioned for over a year.

In this case, Zulu is charged with one count of abuse of authority of

office contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

When the matter came up, the prosecutor informed the court that the case

was coming up for mention.

“I can’t mention it. I will just say no,” magistrate Chulu said. “This man

has been appearing for one year and I feel so embarrassed.”

She wondered why the prosecution had kept mentioning

Zulu’s case since 2011.

Magistrate Chulu said it was unfair for the accused to continue appearing

without trial commencing.

“Why don’t you withdraw the matter if you are not ready and bring it back

when you are ready to proceed?” she asked.
