PF wins ward elections in UPND stronghold as Namulambe takes lead in Mpongwe

Counting is underway in Mpongwe after poll characterized by apathy closed at 6pm. And results have started trooping with the ruling Patriotic Front – PF candidate Gabriel Namulambe slight ahead from the provisional results obtained from six of the 48 polling stations.

Namulambe polled 1, 124 closely followed by Rabson Chilufya of UPND with 774, while Reagan Ndhovu of NAREP was third with 344 followed by Miniver Mutesa of MMD with 337 and UNIP’s Kenny Kuveya trailed with 15 votes.

And the ruling PF has scooped most of the ward by-elections that took place yesterday. Surprisingly, the PF has even won in opposition UPND strongholds. The PF has won in Itezhi Tezhi and Namwala which areas the opposition UPND commands support.

The PF has also won in Matero while the UPND has won a ward election in Mpongwe. Local Government elections took place in 36 wards.
