Cops arrest 3 Siavonga council workers over KR2,300

POLICE in Siavonga have arrested three employees of Siavonga district council in connection with the theft of over KR2,300 belonging to the local authority.

Siavonga district commissioner, Brave Mweetwa confirmed the arrest of the trio to Kariba FM and named the arrested as Edward Simwemba 48 a foreman, Smart Saiti 39 a bricklayer both of Kanyelele compound and David Chilapya of Mitcho compound all from the department of works.

 He said the trio, who are currently in police custody charged with theft by public servant were said to have swindled the local authority by alleging to have bought building materials from a local hardware shop, Kariba Venture, for the renovating of  a house for the council treasurer.

Mweetwa warned civil servants in the district against abusing public funds and that the security wings in the district were on higher alert in making sure that those abusing government resources were brought to book.
