Two Copperbelt University CBU students in Kitwe have drowned in a dam at Nsobe lodge in Masaiti District on the Copperbelt Province.

The two second year engineering students met their fate on Saturday after the canoe they were in capsized.

The Students who are residents of Funda Avenue in Mufulira on the Copperbelt have been identified as Brindley Mpanshi and Mulenga Bwalya.

Former Copperbelt University Students Union (COBUSU) Secretary General Antony Bwalya has confirmed the death of the two students to ZNBC News.

And Mufulira District Commissioner Beatrice Miti has told ZNBC News in a separate interview that the bodies of the two CBU students will be transported to Mufulira on Sunday where funerals are taking place.

Ms. Miti has explained that the two were part of a group of twelve CBU students who had gone for a social outing at Nsobe.  She says the two did not have life jackets when the canoe they were paddling capsized.
