Coach Renard plans to resign

Zambian Coach Herve Renard has hinted his plans to resign in September 2013 due to frustration.

The Frenchman revealed this during a weekly press briefing in Lusaka on Wednesday, July 24, 2013.

Renard said without mentioning names that some people were frustrating him for reasons best known by themselves. He said he will make the final decision after Zambia World Cup qualifier decider match which the Chipolopolo must win against Ghana.

“May be after this game in September I will decide what I will do with my future in this country,” Coach Renard said. “I think some people in this country have targeted to destroy me.”

The Frenchman claimed he was being undermined in his job but said for now his focus is the ‘big’ game against Ghana in that country which if the Chipolopolo wins will seal through to their debut World Cup tournament.

Sources at Zambia’s Football Association have told Zambian Eye that the Frenchman has actually made it clear that if the Chipolopolo Boys fails to qualify he will leave his job. They have informed Zambian Eye that things have not been well at FAZ especially after a draw against Sudan.

“Renard has made his position clear that he wants to leave, I think the only thing that will make him stay is a qualification to the World Cup,” said a source at FAZ.

Renard made a name after guiding Zambia to win its first Africa Cup in 2012 hosted in Gabon. This was after he was recalled in 2011 to replace the Italian Coach who had been fired. Renard first left Zambia after the Africa Cup in Angola in 2010 where the Chipolopolo Boys were eliminated in the second round of the tournament.

Last week, Renard won Zambia the 2013 COSAFA Senior Challenge Cup which the country hosted.
