COACH COETZEE HAPPY WITH BOKS PERFORMANCE IN OPENING 2017 RUGBY CHAPIONSHIP WIN OVER PUMAS

JOHANNESBURG, Springboks coach Alistair Coetzee is happy with his team’s performance after their 37 -15 win over Argentina in their opening 2017 Rugby Championship match in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

The Boks started their campaign on a good note as they outscored the visitors by four tries to two. This was the team’s fourth straight win under Coetzee this season.

The coach admitted that they struggled to penetrate the stubborn defence put up by the South Americans in the first half. It took us some time to find the space and gaps in the defence. The defence was exceptionally good. So a lot of credit must go to the leadership and to the captain for staying patient and looked after the ball well. I mean there were a couple of opportunities that we did not get or take, but I am pleased, said Coetzee.

Springbok captain Eben Etzebeth believes the win is a morale booster ahead of the return match against the Pumas in Salta in Argentina on Saturday.

I think we must take some momentum for next game. i think we need to get that off our back that Argentina is not going to be difficult. We need to prepare well get our momentum back and believe we can get a victory there, said Etzebeth.
