Chipolopolo defender Chintu Kampamba has been appointed Kabwe Warriors player-Coach with immediate effect club officials have announced.

He takes over from Happy Sichokolo who held the position of caretaker coach after Dick Ngwenya left the club about two months ago.

Kampamba’s task will be to save the team from relegation with only four matches to go before the season comes to an end. Kabwe Warriors are 11th on the MTN FAZ Super league standings with 32 points, two points above the relegation zone.

Kabwe Warriors chairman Andrew Kamanga told supersport.com that Kampamba will be assisted by Peter Mwila who has been promoted from the youth team and Tom Kampamba as goalkeepers’ coach.

“We have have not fired anyone. All we have done is to re-align our technical bench. Happy Sichikolo and Vias Mwendalubi will now work with the youth team with the aim of developing talent for the main team,” said Kamanga.

“We looked at our position on the table and we thought we needed to do something. Two of our last four matches will be against Napsa Stars and Nkwazi who are both fighting relegation. We cannot afford to lose those matches and we believe the new technical bench will help the team to remain in the super league,” he said.

Kampamba’s first assignment will be a week 27 fixture at home to Nchanga Rangers on Wednesday October 30 followed by another home fixture against Napsa Stars four days later.

Warriors will then travel to Nkwazi on 9th November before wrapping up the season with a home fixture against Konkola Blades on November 16.
