Spokesperson for Chingola Council George Sichimba told Zambian Eye in an exclusive interview that there has been an agreement with the owners to erase the structures and put up modern stores. Sichimba said the marketeers will have to build their stores according to a plan they will be given by the council.

The exercise has been received with mixed feelings. Some marketeers say this will provide an opportunity for them to put up permanent structures and also prevent people from setting up stores anyhow. While others say they have been inconvenienced and will have to find alternative places to trade from.
