‘Chibesakunda stays’

By KAIKO NAMUSA –
VICE-PRESIDENT Guy Scott has affirmed that acting Chief Justice, Lombe Chibesakunda will continue in her position.
Speaking during the Vice-President’s question time in Parliament yesterday, Dr Scott said Justice Chibesakunda was currently on contract and that the status-quo will remain.
Dr Scott was responding to a question by United Party for National Development (UPND) Katombola Member of Parliament (MP), Derrick Livune, who queried the continued stay of Judge Chibesakunda as the acting Chief Justice when the House had refused her appointment.
“She (Judge Chibesakunda) is on contract and we have no plans to end the situation and bringing her name for ratification was routine procedure,” Dr Scott said.
Mazabuka Central UPND MP Garry Nkombo expressed dissatisfaction with the Vice-President’s response and quoted articles in the Constitution on the matter but was advised by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Patrick Matibini to file a fresh question.
