Chembe settlers in Kalulushi protest

By a Correspondent
About 50 settlers at Chembe farming block in Kalulushi have protested against  Zambia Wild Life Authority(ZAWA) for threatening  to displace them from Chembe area.
The settlers complained that, the move to displace them from the area, they have been occupying since 1967 was very unfair.
“Why should ZAWA give more respect to animals than us, we shall never move out from this place,” said one of the affected settlers Judith Mwale.
ZAWA HAS indicated that Chembe is a game area therefore people occupying the area should be moved to  another area.
But Mwale said the previous MMD government had promised to give them title deeds for the Chembe farming block but wondered why the PF government want to relocate them from that place.
“We are just appealing to the President(Michael Sata) to intervene in this matter, there is no way we can be chased from the area that we have been occupying for a long time,”  Mwale said.
