Chama explains Pope’s resignation

ZAMBIA Episcopal Conference president Archbishop Ignatius Chama yesterday explained Pope

Benedict XVI’s resignation as an honest expression of how he feels at 85.

Pope Benedict, in his resignation notice, says he no longer has the strength to fulfill the duties of the papal office.

And Roman Catholic Church sources say Pope Benedict XVI will retire to the papal summer residence in the picturesque Italian town of Castel Gandolfo when he finally resigns on February 28, 2013 and will not be part of the conclave to choose his successor.

Commenting on the decision by Pope Benedict XVI, whose real names are Joseph Ratzinger, to resign from the papacy after over seven years as the head of the over one billion global Roman Catholic Church community, Archbishop Chama said yesterday that being 85 was not a joke.

“The responsibilities that he has need somebody who has both physical and spiritual strength.
