Bwalya scandalised the Church – Mpasa

CATHOLIC Church Vicar General for Mansa Fr Mambwe Mpasa says Frank Bwalya has scandalised the Catholic Church

by challenging him to quote the Canon law which forbids priests from taking an active role in politics when he is aware of the same law.

And asked to comment onFr Mpasa statement concerning his decision to leave priesthood and join politics, Bwalya said: “Anyone can say anything but it takes brains for one to justify what they have said.”

But Fr Mpasa asked Bwalya to accept that he had subjected the Catholic priesthood to public ridicule by taking an active role in politics and should have applied to be laicised before forming a political party.

On Sunday, Bwalya challenged Fr Mpasa to cite the Catholic Church Canon law which bars priests from getting involved in politics.

But Fr Mpasa on Tuesday quoted the code of the Canon law published on January 28, 1983 number 287 which prohibits Catholic priests from participating in active politics.
