Broken Promise: Constitution Suffers Further Delay

President Michael Sata’s constitutional making process will again suffer further delay after the Technical Committee indicated that the draft document will only be ready in more than two months 30 days before one of the many deadlines the Patriotic Front government had set.

During the 2011 election campaign period, President Sata promised to deliver a people driven constitution within 90 days of assuming power. It was one of the many promises President Sata anchored his numerous campaign promises.

According to Ernest Mwansa, the spokesperson for the committee responsible for drafting the constitution, says the final document will need a minimum of not less than two months to complete the drafting exercise.

“We are between hard place and a rock. Those are professionals, if they say the work is too much, they mean it so we need to give them some time,” he said.
