BRE withdraws its participation in provincial constitution convention

THE Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) has withdrawn its participation in the ongoing provincial constitution convention until its own independent district consultation is completed.

And chairperson of the Luapula Province constitution convention, Katele Kalumba, has cautioned delegates not to be intimidated by the presence of members of parliament as they debate the draft document.

Meanwhile, Dr Rodger Chongwe has advised delegates in the provincial conventions on drafting the constitution to make their submissions with independent minds.

The technical committee appointed to draft the new constitution has been holding provincial conventions following the successful hosting of district conventions. It will later convene a national convention where the draft document will be discussed ahead of the formulation of a new Republican Constitution.
