Boy, six, dies after falling off Ox-cart

Ox-Cart-Child-DriverA six-year-old boy from Chief Siachitema’s area in Kalomo has been crushed to death after accidentally falling from an ox-cart.

Southern Province Police Commissioner, Charity Katanga, confirmed the death of the boy,   saying the incident occurred when the family members were travelling back to their home from the farm.

Ms Katanga said the deceased accidentally fell off   the cart which was being aided by his father, Frazer Libala whilst he was in a company of his other brother.

She said the boy died on the spot and his body is lying in the Kalomo district hospital mortuary.

Meanwhile, seven Ethiopian nationals that were intercepted in Kalomo last week by a combined team of immigration and police officers for unlawful entry in the country have appeared in the local magistrate’s court.

The illegal immigrants were charged with unlawful entry into Zambia and have   fined K3,000.00 each or in default serve a six months imprisonment.

The seven prohibited immigrants appeared before magistrate, Litungi Litungi charged with unlawful entry into the country contrary to Section 11 (2) and 56 (1) of the Immigration and Deportation Act, number 18 of 2010.

The seven named immigrants, all male and aged between 20 and 30, were believed to have been destined for South Africa under the pretext of seeing their relatives but were intercepted around 01.00 hours by security personnel after a tip from the public aboard a bus after being found without any inter-country entry documentation.

The seven illegal immigrants by press time were still remanded at Kalomo state prison after failing to pay the court fines. / ZANIS
