Ben Phiri’s father dies of depression after seeing son humiliated by Sata

‘Former’ Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Ben Phiri’s father has died. Mr. Misheck Phiri aged 77, died last week of Cardiac Failure on 27th July, at St. Francis hospital in Katete and was laid to rest on Sunday, 30th June, 2013.
The late Mr. Phiri, traveled to Lusaka at the beginning of May and witnessed the swearing in ceremony of his son Ben Phiri, at State House on 10th May, 2013, which appointment was shortly after revoked.
The senior Mr. Phiri is reported to have been affected by the revocation of his son’s appointment to the extent that he even stopped taking his meals regularly. His last days were said to have been characterized by gloomy moods and he is reported to have gone back to Katete a very sad man, family members have told the Watchdog.
Meanwhile well placed sources have revealed that President Michael Sata may reappoint Mr. Ben Phiri to the Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health as Permanent Secretary to be in charge of Community Development.
