Banda, Chikwelete barred from contesting polls

The Patriotic Front (PF) has now announced that its two officials Goodson Banda and Robert Chikwelete have been suspended and will not be allowed to contest the Lusaka District elections.

The development was announced in Lusaka today, October 21, 2013 by Deputy Secretary General Bridget Atanga.

Banda was the elected Chairperson for Lusaka District but was recently toppled by a group of PF members who are against the leadership General Secretary Wynter Kabimba.

Chikwelete was the man who lead PF cadres who staged a number of protests in Lusaka and went to lock up the District Offices. He was later appointed as Chairman of Lusaka District by President Michael Sata.

But last week President Sata disowned Chikwelete and refused ever appointing him. In a press statement issued by Press Secretary, President Sata challenged Chikwelete to produce a letter of appointment and state where he announced his appointment.

President Sata further directed Lusaka PF provincial leadership to go ahead and organize an election for the District so that a popular leader is elected.
