Another riot in Central Province

Pupils at Justine Mukando Secondary School in Chitambo District of Central Province on Sunday night on July 21, 2013 rioted destroying School property.

This is after pupils at Serenje Boys in the neigbouring district of Serenje also rioted the just within the same day setting ablaze some classroom block.

The pupils at Justine Mukando Secondary school are demanding for enhanced water supply to the institution.

Central Province Police Commissioner Standwell Lungu said no arrests were made.

The Ministry of Education who ordered the closure of Serenje Boys on Sunday has not given a statement whether the school will also be closed.

Meanwhile three people have died on the spot while nine others sustained injuries after the Toyota Hiace minibus ABX 4354 they were in on the Great East Road.

The accident which happened today around 01:30 am hours at Manenekela hills between Luangwa and Rufunsa is believed to be because of excessive driving.

The bus was coming from Petauke going to Lusaka.

Police Public Deputy Relations Officer Charity Munganga Chanda said in a statement on Monday July 22,2013 that the bus had 14 people on board.

She said among the injured were two juveniles and a seven-month-old baby.

Chanda added that one of the deceased has been identified as Andrew Banda of Petauke East while two female bodies have not yet been identified.

She said both the driver and conductor of the bus are on the run and police have launched a manhunt for them.

Chanda also disclosed that the injured are admitted in Mupanshya Hospital while the bodies of the deceased are lying in the mortuary of the same hospital.
