Another journalist Kangwa Mulenga dies

Former Zambia Daily Mail Ndola Bureau Chief, Kangwa Mulenga has died.

According to an internal memo to all members of staff signed by the Zambia Daily Mail Director of Human Resources and Administration, Lutato Nyendwa, Mulenga died in India.

“I regret to advise the death of Mr. Kangwa Mulenga, former Bureau Chief- Ndola. Mr. Kangwa Mulenga went to seek treatment in India last week for a tumour that was growing behind his left eye. The tumour was removed on Saturday but he bled and the bleeding affected his brain and that has now cost him his life.
“Mr. Kangwa Mulenga died this morning. Funeral will be held at his father’s place in Kanyama Site and Service at 4973 behind Kanyama Clinic. Further arrangements will be notified to you,” reads the memo in parts.

Before joining the Daily Mail, Mr Mulenga worked for the now defunct Monitor Newspaper, a publication of the Inter African Network for Human Rights and Development (Afronet).

A number of media practitioners in Zambia have expressed shock at the passing of Mulenga.

Owen Miyanza who worked with Mulenga at The Monitor Newspaper described him as an ever charming gentleman saying his pass on has come as a shock.

“Its barely two days after we lost another friend and colleague Brian Malambo of Sky FM, now Kangwa is also gone. So devastating, we only pray that God can console the family during this trying moment,” said Miyanza.

Douglas Hampande, a former workmate of Mr Mulenga said on a facebook post he had been shocked with the passing of Mulenga.

Another former workmate Matimba Nkonje also expressed shock at the death of Mulenga.

“Kangwa Mulenga so sad my bro! Will always remember and cherish the days we spent together at the Monitor Newspaper and the Digest. ‘dibulo dibala’ mhsrip,” reads Matimba’s post on facebook.

Another of his former workmate at The Monitor Whitney Mulobela wrote in a facebook post, “ Am terribly shocked about Kangwa’s death. Its only last weekend Uncle C.K was telling me about his illness. Indeed we will always cherish those good times we shared on Karachi street in Kamwala! MHSRIP Kangwanda.”

Zambia Union of Journalist secretary general Angela Chishimba also expressed shock at the death of Mulenga.
