Amsterdam threatens Sata’s government

Ex-president Rupiah Banda’s International lawyer, Robert Amsterdam has charged that the Zambian government’s continued refusal to grant his client his passport is a testimony of the political persecution against him.

Amsterdam said in a statement on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 that these are willful action a criminal government which believes that it has the impunity to ignore court orders in order to attack and disparage a former President who is a threat to them. He said there is no excuse for government continued manipulation of Rupiah Banda’s right to travel.

He said it is a blatant and flagrant abuse of the law by the government stating that he intend to hold the PF officials accountable. He added that the PF  government recently revoked Banda’s diplomatic passport which he is entitled to as provided in the Act of Parliament for the former Presidents benefit act.

Amsterdam said this action confirms that the PF government has moved toward a bona fide show trial state which one cannot take any claim they make at face value. He said the PF government under President  Sata, Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba and Director of Public Prosecutions Mutembo Nchito have embarked on  a determined campaign to attack  opposition including slapping the former President Banda politically motivated trials.
