Age limit for presidency not an issue to us – UPND

UPND says the age limit put on the presidency by the national constitution convention is not an issue to the party.

At the just-ended national constitution convention, delegates agreed that under the new constitution, anyone above the age of 75 should not be allowed to run for Republican president.

None of the 10 provinces made that proposal during provincial conventions, but the executive and legislature committee of the national convention introduced it.

On the qualifications of a presidential candidate, article 97 (1) of the first draft constitution states that: “A person qualifies to be nominated as candidate for election as President if that person – (d) is not less than thirty-five years of age.
