‘Abortionist’ cop nabbed

By SYLVIA MWEETWA –
A POLICE officer in Chililabombwe has been detained in connection with illegal abortions while her husband believed to be Congolese has fled the country.
The couple of Lubengele township is alleged to have been running a clinic where illegal abortions were being carried out.
Copperbelt commissioner of police Mary Tembo confirmed the detention of the female sergeant in an interview yesterday.
Ms Tembo said the police officer was in custody while a search for her husband had intensified.
“I can confirm that we are holding one woman sergeant over illegal abortions, but I will be able to give more details tomorrow (today),” she said.
But police sources said the woman was picked up following an operation while her husband fled into the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo.
Sources said the illegal operations were unearthed after one of the girls admitted to a ‘clinic’ developed some complication.
