3 judges remain suspended

THE Supreme Court says President Michael Sata did not breach the Constitution when he appointed a tribunal to probe alleged professional misconduct of three judges.

And Attorney General Mumba Malila says the Supreme Court’s judgment is a very good thing for the state.

“This is a very good thing and work begins now for us,” said Malila, who had appealed against Lusaka High Court judge Fulgence Chisanga’s decision to stay the proceedings of a tribunal appointed to probe alleged professional misconduct of three judges.

And Solicitor General Musa Mwenye said: “The effect of the judgment of the Supreme Court is that the position that obtained before the stay was granted has been restored, and the stay has been removed.”

This effectively means that Supreme Court justice Philip Musonda and High Court justices Nigel Mutuna and Charles Kajimanga’s suspension would be effected until the tribunal concludes its work.
