2013 AFCON ‘fiesta’ on

JOHANNESBURG  –
– THE wait is over as the Orange 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosts South Africa prepare to raise the curtain this evening when they take on Group A rivals Cape Verde Islands at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg.
The 29th edition of the AFCON begins with the world ready for another exciting and surprising finals.
A year ago in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, Zambia shocked the world by beating Ghana and Ivory Coast en route to their first-ever title, and the Chipolopolo join their vanquished foes as favourites — this time looking to claim a spot in the summer’s FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013.
And Gordon Igesund’s Bafana Bafana earned their place at this year’s continental showpiece courtesy of their billing as host nation, but have a lot to make up for given their failure to qualify for the 2012 showpiece.
