17 Hard-core criminals escape from Mbala prison

Seventeen hard core criminals are reported to have escaped from a State prison in Mbala, Northern province of Zambia.

The prisoners who were facing murder charges are said to be dangerous criminals and so far only one has been captured.  According to ZANIS, the government owned News Agency the prisoners escaped after cutting the barbed wire during a heavy rainfall on Saturday, March 30, 2013.

Mbala District Commissioner, Best Kabulembe has confirmed the development  and cautioned members of the public to be aware of these criminals and report any suspect to relevant authority.
The District Commissioner said the escapees have poised a security risk to members of the public in the district.
