UPND Vows to Continue Citizen Arrests in Mangango

The opposition United Party for National Development says it will continue with its citizen arrest strategy if the ruling Patriotic Front continues flouting the Electoral Code of Conduct by using government resources on party campaigns.

And the Patriotic Front says it is counting on the Zambia Police as an ally to maintain law and order in Mangango constituency where preparations for the August, 19 by-election are in high gear.

UPND Deputy Secretary Kuchunga Simusamba said the police had let the opposition down as they cast a blind eye to transgressions by the ruling party and always came out hard on the opposition.

So far the bad blood in Mangango between the PF and the UPND has reared its head with Central Province Minister and PF campaign manager Obvious Mwaliteta being cornered for using a government car with a changed number plate.

“As UPND we would like to emphasize that we will not tolerate any levels of breach of the law during the campaigns and we are not going to sit while even men in uniform will also become part of the campaign team of political parties,” Simusamba said.

“The only people that have to worry are those that breach the law.”

And Home Affairs Deputy Minister Stephen Kampyongo said the PF will be counting on the police to help them enforce the law.
