Grand Coalition Ready to Fund Draft Constitution Process

The grand coalition on the constitution says it is ready to fund the constitution making process provided government writes officially to them.

Coalition chairperson Beatrice Grillo said the country had always found money where a need had arisen historically.

Grillo said government should have known before they started the process that it will cost money.

Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili on Monday challenged the aocates of the constitution making process to find the money.

“We can fund the process as long as government puts that request in writing officially because there are stakeholders that have indicated that they are ready to fund it,” she said.

“This country has been known to find money whenever need arises, look at the example of winning the Africa Cup, two days after winning the money was found to reward the team.”

She added: “Let him go ahead and write but they have to release the draft constitution we will source the money. What is lacking is not money but the political will to see through the process.”

The PF government has so far spent K115 million on the constitution making process and had cast aside K42.2 million in the current budget for the process despite having gone cold on the matter.
