ZAMBIAN ANTI-GRAFT AGENCY CONCLUDES PROBE IN “MAIZE-GATE” DEAL

LUSAKA, Zambia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has concluded its investigation into the Zambia-Malawi maize deal, dubbed “Maize-gate” by the local media, and the case has been submitted to the prosecutors for legal opinion.

The Commission also said Thursday that the probe into the alleged corruption case against former Minister of Information Chishimba Kambwili is still ongoing and nearing completion.

In quarterly media statement released here, the commission said it had concluded 69 cases and recorded two arrests and secured six convictions in the first quarter of 2017.

Meanwhile, the commission has concluded and submitted files to the Director of Public Prosecution in the case of alleged Abuse of Authority of Office at the National Savings and Credit Bank.

It has also concluded investigations and has submitted files for legal opinion in the alleged mismanagement of funds at the National Youth Development Centre involving United Progressive Party leader Saviour Chishimba.
