Kalomo pupil, 7 drowns on way to school

A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD girl of Kalonda area in Kalomo last Thursday drowned as she tried to cross a river on her way to school.

The body of the girl had not yet been retrieved by press time yesterday.

Kalonda residents and local police sources confirmed the development to ZANIS in Kalomo and named the deceased as Chano Amakwa of chief Siachitema’s area, a pupil of Kalonda Basic School.

Meanwhile, over 60 passengers on a Lusaka bound Mazhyandu Family Bus on Tuesday afternoon escaped unhurt when the bus caught fire 15 kilometres south of Kalomo after developing a suspected electrical fault.

The Scania Marcopolo bus registration number ABX 8677 caught fire in Tumango area of Kalomo but onlookers rescued all the passengers and their luggage.

The bus was being driven by 50-year-old Christopher Tembo of house number 49 Libala Stage two of Lusaka when it caught fire around 12:30 hours and was completely burnt to ashes.
