Boycott by-elections if they are costly, Kambwili tells Opposition

Outspoken National Youth Chairperson for the ruling party, PF Chishimba Kambwili has told the opposition political parties in Zambia to boycott by-elections if they are costly to the treasury.

Kambwili who is Minister of Youths and Sports said it is unjustifiable for the opposition parties to continue participating in by-elections at the same time complain that they are a strain in the country’s treasury. He said the right thing for the opposition to do is to stay away from the polls so that the PF can go unchallenged and avoid by-elections.

The Minister who is also a Law Marker for Roan constituency on the Copperbelt province said there is no logic in participating in an exercise and at the same time condemn it.

His comments comes following the opposition’s move to strongly criticize the PF government for inciting by-elections which they say are a strain to the country’s limited resources.

The country has experienced unprecedented by-elections from the time the PF won elections two year ago which the party has confirmed is aimed at increasing their numbers in Parliament for easy passing of bills. PF won only 60 of the 150 seats in Parliament in 2011.
