Access Bank joins Thandiwe in Mphundu Trust case

ACCESS Bank Zambia Limited has joined former first lady Thandiwe Banda’s legal action to challenge the restriction on her up market Kabulonga-domiciled Mphundu Trust Limited apartments which was made by the government joint investigative wings.

But Anti-Corruption Commission senior legal and prosecutions officer James Mataliro argued in court yesterday that Access Bank Zambia Limited’s interest in the matter is too remote.

This is in a matter where Thandiwe (above) has filed an application in the Lusaka High Court to vary or reverse the restriction notice issued to Mphundu Trust Limited by the ACC owing to an investigation.

When the matter came up for hearing before High Court judge Dominic Sichinga in chambers on Tuesday, lawyers representing Access Bank Zambia Limited prayed that the bank be joined to the proceedings and Thandiwe’s lawyer, Prof Patrick Mvunga, did not object.

However, Mataliro said the prosecution’s contention was on the question of law as opposed to facts.
